Welcome Back, Mrs. Craig
Mrs. Craig, media specialist at DHS, has returned after a year-long maternity leave. She has worked at DHS since 2015 and is excited for a new school year with the new and returning students.
This school year Mrs. Craig has another helping hand in the library, Mrs. Cassity. Since Mrs. Craig is on site three out of the five days, Mrs. Cassity will be a useful asset in helping the library run smoothly during the week when Mrs. Craig is gone. Along with managing the library Mrs. Craig is also teaching a seventh grade class during fourth period.
Mrs. Craig said that she wants the library to be “somewhere the students want to come and feel comfortable. Also, now having the addition of the furniture accomplishes her goal of making the library a place where students want to come and are more comfortable while they study or read.
More classes are steering away from Accelerated Reader because teachers feel that students were more focused on how it was going to affect their grade, rather than reading for comprehension. With fewer classes using AR Mrs. Craig is much more focused on encouraging students to read independently.
“I missed not only the students, but the feeling of being apart of something.” It was an adjustment for Mrs. Craig to not have the routine of coming to work everyday and was difficult to get used to. We are excited to have Mrs. Craig back in the library and she is prepared to start a new school year.
